On a panel with Dr Leslie Heywood and Dr Bernadette Roe, Mercia talked about the use of research to make personal abuse histories appeal to a broader audience. This panel presented at the 2021 AWP conference which was held virtually.

Art and Representation of Genocide| Artco, Berlin

 

Mercia spoke on Argentinian Artivist’s work featuring archived photographs of Ovaherero and Nama victims of the Genocide (1904-1908). She spoke on the differences in affect between monochromatic photographs and color photographs. Specifically how color or the lack of it obscures our view of history in that monochromatic pictures often represent a distant history, while color makes the history feel more present.
